Does Repurposed Treasures accept unwanted furniture and home decor items from the public?

One of the most frequently asked questions we receive is if we accept furniture and home decor items directly from people who no longer want or need it.
The short answer is yes. However, there are a few things we take into consideration when it comes to sourcing inventory. So, if you’re contacting us to discuss offering us furniture or home decor items, you might find this blog useful to read.
First, we need to know where you are located to make sure you are in our pickup area. We are based in Santa Clarita, CA and try to stay within a 2-hour radius most of the week. Unfortunately, if you’re looking to offer us items, but live more than 2 hours away, we will politely decline and hope you can find someone nearer to you that could take your furniture. We have this policy because it takes a huge chunk of our working day collecting furniture if it’s too far away, and we try to keep our prices as low as possible, so we keep fuel and collection costs to a minimum. We do have exceptions for rare items or when we are traveling the country looking for potential treasures. Follow us on social media to learn when we are going to be in your area.
We will need photos of the items. We will never commit to collecting a piece without seeing several pictures. Our staff may ask for certain pictures to better identify condition, manufacturer, or other important details.
Additional questions we may ask.
Has the item been in a smoking home? This is because the smell of cigarette smoke can be incredibly difficult to remove from items, particularly if people have smoked inside. We won’t always turn down things because of this, however, it’s a factor we’ve found must be considered in our decision making.
Are there pets in the house? This is because some pet smells are hard to get out of certain materials. Having pets won't make us turn down your item but could be a factor in our decision.
Are you looking for payment? If so, how much? We get a lot of stuff given to us by people who just want to clear the space, and don’t want anything for it. Other times people want to get paid. Both are fine, we just like to establish the expectations clearly from the beginning of the discussion. Please remember that we have to make money so Repurposed Treasures cannot afford to pay retail for your items. We have expenses to collect, repair or repurpose, and market items which has to be figured into everything we purchase.
What kind of furniture and home decor items are we interested in?
We try to save as much as possible from heading to the landfill, however, we can't take everything offered to us, partly because of storage space, and partly because some things just don't sell well.
For example, dining tables and chairs take up a large footprint of storage, so we do reluctantly have to turn down a number of these, purely because we can’t store them.
We are always on the lookout for good quality, solid wood chest of drawers, sideboards and buffets. These are our most popular pieces of furniture, so we’re always looking for them.
Always ask us to see if we are interested. Repurposed Treasures donates furniture to several local school theatre programs and might be willing to take lower quality items to help the programs save money.
Repurposed Treasures also takes unique items on consignment. Email repurposedtreasuresllc@gmail.com for more details.
So, there you have a run-down of what we will ask, and what we are looking for when it comes to your unwanted furniture. I hope this helps, and please understand that if we could collect every piece of furniture and rehome it, we would.
Thank you for helping us to reduce waste one piece at a time. Until next time we should all be good stewards of our planet as stated in Genesis 2:15 "The Lord God placed the man and in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it."
