Antique Tiger Oak Parlor Table
Antique Tiger Oak Parlor Table
Tiger Oak furniture gained popularity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly during the American Arts and Crafts movement. The distinctive "tiger stripe" grain pattern is achieved through a specific sawing technique that highlights the medullary rays of the oak wood. These tables were commonly used in parlors or living rooms as accent pieces for displaying decorative items or serving refreshments.
This particular table features barley twist legs, a decorative shelf, and claw feet, all characteristic of the period. The rope twist design on the legs adds a touch of elegance, while the lower shelf provides additional storage or display space. Tables like this were often found in middle class homes, reflecting the era's emphasis on craftsmanship and natural materials.
I bought this table to keep but I don’t have a great spot for it. Needs a little love but is a very nice table.
